Direct Malay Translation

How about when we translate IT terms into malay language? Try to translate this and see what happens…

Hardware = barang keras

Software = barang lembut

Joystick = batang keseronokan

Plug & Play = Cucuk dan main

Port = lubang

Server = pelayan

Client = pelanggan

<English sentences>

“The server gives a plug and play service to the clients using either hardware or software joystick. The joystick goes into the port of the client.”

Translation <malay language>: –

“Pelayan itu beri kepada pelanggannya layanan cucuk dan main dengan menggunakan batang keseronokan jenis keras atau lembut. Batang keseronokan itu dimasukkan ke dalam lubang pelanggan”.

Thus, this is a reason why malaysian academician (specialized in IT fields) will maintain IT terms in English to avoid ‘the funniest’ and ‘the silliest’ translation during knowledge dissemination.
